Museum Of Flight
While Kitty Hawk may have featured for the first powered, controlled flight, it is Seattle that has become synonymous with aviation, its history and future.
Being fortunate enough to visit the Museum Of Flight was a delight, not least because of the wonderful collection of timeless classic airplanes, many of which are rarely seen and which are probably even less well known about amongst many of today’s travelling public.
Not just commercial aviation, the museum is home to a plethora of other superb features such as space exploration and military aviation, epitomised by the huge presence of the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird along with detailed history of the aerospace arena in Washington state from its infancy, World War 1 & 2 through to the modernity that graces the skies today.
While writing about the museum would not do it justice, it is a must-visit place for those with a passion and background in aviation. Those without a genuine passion for all things aviation would not know how to value the rich history, the legacy and appreciation for the continued development in the aviation arena, particularly as this second century of flight is still largely in its infancy.
I take this opportunity to thank Ted at the Museum Of Flight for his generous hospitality and to the rest of the staff that made the visit a truly memorable experience. Thank you!
