Boeing Completes 787 Power On Sequence

June 20th, 2008

Boeing today confirmed that it had successfully completed the power on sequence to the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Although its been a long wait since the dramatic premiere last summer, working through travelled work, missing parts and shortages of key components like fasteners, Boeing and its partners on the 787 can finally now look at this first milestone as one where a corner has indeed been turned.

The team has made great progress in bringing the bold innovation of the 787 to reality,” said vice president and general manager of the 787 program, Patrick Shanahan.

There is plenty of work to be done between now and first flight, but with every step forward we grow more and more confident.

In completing the Power On sequence, we have verified both that the electrical power distribution system is installed as designed and that it functions as intended.

While delays to the program have been met with disappointment amongst investors, analysts and customers, the commencement of thorough testing prior to the first flight will be indicative of how the company manages to restore the production schedule that has been amended numerous times.

Equally, those milestones will be watched as keenly as the countdown to flight testing continues.
