Across The Airwaves - Tinseth Talk
November 21st, 2007
At the Dubai Air Show, I was fortunate enough to be able to spend some quality time speaking to VP, Marketing at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Randy Tinseth in the 787 Dreamliner mock up.

Unless you have been living in a cave and do not know who he is, Randy is responsible for marketing all of Boeing’s commercial airplanes.

Sat in the comfortable 787 seats with a soothing and calm blue-hue cabin ambience, we discussed many wide ranging topics and were intermittently drowned out by the buzz of the aerial displays taking place outside the halls.

Given the timescale and location, we were unable to talk for longer than we both would have liked, but I extend my many thanks to both the Boeing staff who made this all possible and Randy himself .
I’m sure Randy isn’t sick of seeing so much of me just yet, and I’m equally sure we’ll convene again for a longer conversation.
And that’ll be much sooner than you think….but for now - click.

Very professional interview. Mr. Tinseth’s comments certainly throw oil on the the waters WRT to the “sky is falling” frenzy I’ve seen in other blogs of late!

I agree with Aurora, very professional. I enjoyed Randy’s positivity and Boeing777’s questions were right on the money in terms of what we wanted to hear from Randy. Well done especially in that respect Boeing777 and thanks for sharing it with us.

..Thanks to both Boeing777 and Randy for such a great interview! Very professional indeed.
Some great stuff in the interview.
What I didn’t know was that the B77W/-200LR/-F represents almost 1/2 of the entire 777 line sold in the past 17 years…..
This is the 3rd best year in B777 sales so to day the A350 is going to “kill” the B777s is just drinking the kool-aid.
Nice to hear no delays on the B777F/B748F program.
It will be interesting to see if the AA, DL, AF and LH’s of the world make an order.
His comments on the -10 are interesting…
1) Will wait to see exactly how the -1000 is defined
2) Apply B787-8 technology margins are -i.e.-in terms of engineering, etc
3) -10 model will be available around end of 2013 time
The single-isle comments were interesting also, kind of dispels any myth a new-generation single-isle plane coming out by 2010-2011….I would say around 2013-2015…
I liked the little “pot-shot” at Airbus and MotorMouth Leahy regarding orders and EIS…
Again, thanks to both Boeing777 and Randy for a great interview….
